The Chromatic Salmonella is designed to facilitate the isolation and differentiation of Salmonella spp. thanks to a special chromogenic mixture. This medium allows for the distinction of Salmonella from other coliform and non-coliform bacteria based on the color and morphology of the colonies. Additionally, the mixture inhibits the growth of Gram-positive microorganisms, ensuring more accurate results.

Method Principle

The formulation of the medium includes:

• Proteose Peptone: Source of amino acids and essential vitamins for bacterial growth.


• Meat extract: Fundamental nutrient for growth support.


• Yeast extract: Provides additional nutrients and vitamins.


• Tween 80: A surfactant that accelerates cell growth.

Test Procedure

Follow these simple steps to perform the test:

• Some organisms that do not hydrolyze the components of the chromogenic mixture may appear colorless.
