MacConkey Agar

INTENDED USE
The MacConkey Agar is a slightly selective medium used to differentiate between lactose-fermenting enteric bacilli and non-lactose-fermenting enteric bacilli. This medium is intended for the analysis of clinical samples, such as stool and urine, and for the testing of food, wastewater, and other materials of sanitary relevance.

Its use is intended exclusively for diagnostic purposes in the laboratory and requires additional confirmatory tests for a complete diagnosis.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The MacConkey Agar is a slightly selective and differential culture medium specific for gram-negative bacteria. This medium makes it possible to distinguish between gram-negative organisms based on their ability to metabolize lactose.

Lactose fermentation leads to the production of organic acids, such as lactic acid, which lower the pH of the agar. Thanks to the presence of a pH indicator, the medium turns pink in acidic environments.
