Multi-Drug Rapid Hair Test
Product Name:
Rapid test for the qualitative detection of COT/MET/MOP/COC in human hair.
Use:
For professional in vitro medical-diagnostic use only.
Intended Use:
The Multi-Drug cassette rapid test is a chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of multiple substances and their metabolites in hair at the following concentrations (cut-off):
COT (Cotinine): 0.2 ng/mg
MET (d-Methamphetamine): 0.2 ng/mg
MOP (Morphine): 0.2 ng/mg
COC (Cocaine): 0.5 ng/mg
This test provides a preliminary analytical result. To confirm the result, the use of a specific alternative chemical method such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is recommended.
Summary:
The rapid hair test offers unique advantages in drug testing. Hair can provide long-term information on substance use, unlike blood and urine. The hair sample is easy to collect, transport, and store. The slow metabolism of substances in hair allows long-term detection.
Description of Detected Substances:
Cotinine (COT):
Metabolite of nicotine, a toxic alkaloid that stimulates the central nervous system.
Present in tobacco and smoking cessation therapy products such as gums and patches.
Methamphetamine (MET):
Stimulant substance with high potential for abuse and dependence.
Effects: euphoria, alertness, reduced appetite, increased blood pressure, and cardiac arrhythmias.
Morphine (MOP):
Derivative of the opium poppy, used as an analgesic.
- Can cause tolerance, dependence, and abuse.
Cocaine (COC):
Powerful stimulant of the central nervous system and local anesthetic.
Effects: extreme energy, restlessness, tremors, excessive stimulation.
Test Principle:
During the test, the lysate breaks down the keratin of the hair, releasing the molecules of the substance to be analyzed. The lysate migrates by capillary action. If the substance is present at a concentration above the cut-off, a colored line will not appear in the test zone. A colored line in the control zone indicates an adequate sample volume and correct performance of the procedure.
Reagents:
Each test line contains specific anti-drug antibodies and substance-protein conjugates. The control line contains anti-rabbit goat polyclonal IgG antibodies and rabbit IgG.
Precautions:
- For in vitro diagnostic use only.
- Store in the sealed pouch until use.
- Treat all samples as potentially infectious.
- Dispose of used tests according to local regulations.
Storage and Stability:
Store at 2-30°C. Do not freeze. The test is stable until the expiration date indicated on the package. The powder catalyst can be stored at 2-30°C for 18 months, but 2-8°C is recommended for best performance.
Sample Collection and Preparation:
The hair sample should be collected close to the root from the center of the head. Cut the hair into small pieces before testing.
Materials Provided:
- Cassette test
- Package insert
- Collection cards
- Buffer
- Tubes with powder catalyst
Instructions for Use:
- Bring to room temperature (15-30°C).
- Collect and cut the hair.
- Prepare the lysate with the buffer.
- Add the hair sample to the lysate and shake.
- Transfer 3 drops of lysate into the test well.
Read the result at 5 minutes. Do not interpret after 10 minutes.
Interpretation of Results:
Negative: Colored line in the control zone and test zone.
Positive: Colored line only in the control zone.
Invalid: No line in the control zone. Repeat the test.
Quality Control:
The test includes a procedural control. It is recommended to test positive and negative controls to confirm test performance.
Limitations:
- Preliminary qualitative result.
- Possible technical errors or interference.
- Adulterating substances may alter the results.
A positive result does not indicate the level of intoxication or route of administration.
A negative result may indicate a concentration below the cut-off.
- The test does not distinguish between drugs of abuse and some medications.
Expected Values:
Negative: Substance concentration below the cut-off levels.
Positive: Substance concentration above the cut-off levels.
